Public Pot Content Guidelines

Last updated: September 2026

Since a Public Pot's name, description, and avatar are visible to anyone browsing MemoirME, they're held to a higher bar than a private diary entry. These guidelines set that bar, so you know what's expected before submitting a pot.

These guidelines apply to a pot's title, description, and avatar only. They do not cover diary content, which is governed separately.

What gets rejected

A pot's title, description, or avatar is rejected if it contains any of the following, in any language:

  • Hate speech or discrimination - content that attacks, demeans, or excludes people based on race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or similar protected traits.
  • Harassment or targeting - content that names, shames, mocks, or singles out a real, identifiable private individual (public figures may be referenced neutrally, e.g. "fans of ...", but not to insult or harass them).
  • Sexual or explicit content - nudity, sexually explicit text or imagery, or content primarily intended to arouse, in either the description or the avatar image.
  • Violence or graphic content - depictions or glorification of graphic violence, gore, self-harm, or death; avatars showing weapons in a threatening context.
  • Illegal activity - content promoting drugs, weapons trafficking, fraud, or other illegal goods/services.
  • Spam, scams, or commercial abuse - pot names/descriptions used purely for advertising, phishing, referral schemes, or impersonating a business/brand without authorization.
  • Impersonation - an avatar or name that impersonates a real person, celebrity, or organization, or copies another pot's identity to mislead members.
  • Misleading or deceptive framing - a pot name/description that misrepresents what the pot is actually for (e.g. claiming to be an official MemoirME pot when it isn't).
  • Off-platform contact bait - descriptions whose main purpose is to funnel people to an external app, website, or contact method unrelated to sharing memories.
  • Copyrighted/trademarked material used without rights - an avatar that is a copyrighted image, logo, or trademark the creator doesn't have rights to use.

What's allowed (even if edgy or blunt)

  • Strong opinions, humor, or casual/informal language that isn't targeted harassment (e.g. "Grumpy Cat Owners Only", "Ex-Smokers Anonymous").
  • Sensitive-but-legitimate themes handled respectfully - grief, illness recovery, addiction recovery, LGBTQ+ community spaces, political or religious identity groups organizing around shared experience (not attacking others).
  • Mild profanity that isn't slurs or harassment, if not excessive.
  • Fictional, artistic, or stylized avatars (illustrations, pets, landscapes, abstract art).
